IT job growth ‘completely stalled’ in August: TechServe Alliance

September 13, 2018

The number of IT jobs in the US remained flat in August from July, holding at a total of more than 5.3 million, the TechServe Alliance announced. After months of decelerating growth rates, IT employment stalled in August, according to the group, which serves as the national trade association of the IT and engineering staffing and solution industry.

“After months of decelerating growth rates, IT employment completely stalled in August,” TechServe Alliance CEO Mark Roberts said. “As previously observed, this is totally a supply side phenomenon. There are simply not enough qualified workers to meet demand — with the shortage only further exacerbated by restrictive immigration policies.”

On a year-over-year basis, IT employment was up by 0.54% in August with 28,900 more IT workers than the previous year.

The TechServe Alliance also measures engineering employment, which edged up by 0.09% in August from July. Engineering employment increased 2.12% on a year-over-year basis, an increase of 54,200 engineering workers.
