IRS looking at Uber’s taxes for 2013 and 2014

June 04, 2019

Human cloud, ride-sharing firm Uber Technologies Inc.’s (NYSE: UBER) taxes for 2013 and 2014 are under examination by the IRS, the company reported in a filing with the US Securities and Exchange Commission. The information was first reported in Business Insider, which noted former CEO Travis Kalanick was leading the company at the time.

In the filing, Uber reported “the company is currently under a federal income tax examination by the Internal Revenue Service for tax years 2013 and 2014. The company is also under examination by various state and foreign tax authorities. The company believes that adequate amounts have been reserved in these jurisdictions.”

Uber reported last week that revenue rose 20% in its first quarter ended March 31 to almost $3.10 billion, but posted a net loss of $1.01 billion.

The company has 17 million trips per day on its platform.
