Human cloud firms such as Uber and Lyft are quietly lobbying Democrat leaders in California to ease the impact of a court ruling that took aim at independent contractor status, Bloomberg reports. Leaders targeted include Gov. Jerry Brown. Execs from Uber, Lyft and other human cloud firms wrote a letter to the leaders saying the ruling will stifle innovation and threaten the livelihoods of millions of workers without legislative action to fix the situation. The court adopted the tougher “ABC” standard for determining independent contractor status in January.
