Human cloud: Uber raises $2 billion, staffing business in works; Fiverr rolls out education program

October 18, 2018

CNBC reported today that human cloud/ride-sharing firm Uber raised $2 billion — with $1.5 billion in eight-year notes and $500 million in five-year notes — as it prepares for an initial public offering next year that could value it at more than $100 billion.

Separately, the Financial Times reported that Uber is working on a new staffing business that would provide workers such as waiters or security guards on-demand for special events and corporate functions. The project allegedly has been in development in Chicago, and it is unclear when it would launch.

Human cloud/online staffing firm Fiverr announced that it has begun a new e-learning platform to allow freelancers to learn new skills, VentureBeat reported. Cost of the classes range from $19 to $38, and they are taught entirely online. It would compete against firms such as Cousera and Udemy.
