Healthcare staffing platform CareRev names new CEO; responds to report on previous exec

June 07, 2023

CareRev, a staffing platform the connects healthcare clinicians with shifts at hospitals and other healthcare facilities, appointed Brandon Atkinson as CEO.

In an email to SIA, the company confirmed that founder and previous CEO, Will Patterson, stepped down and said its June 2 announcement of a new CEO was the culmination of a plan designed to accelerate CareRev’s growth that had been set in motion several months ago.

A website called The Information (paywall) appeared to publish allegations of drug use by the prior CEO and lax vetting of nurses.

CareRev reported that it didn’t have any comments beyond the allegations of lax compliance processes.

“CareRev’s onboarding and credentialing processes involved thorough vetting in the past, and that has continued to evolve and become even more robust over time,” the company said in statement. “Today, the team has over 40 people internally working on onboarding healthcare professionals, which includes thorough credential and background checks; drug testing; learning modules for each specialty as required by state law and/or facilities; and orientation trainings and precepting shifts, as required by facilities. CareRev is also certified by The Joint Commission — meaning that the nation’s oldest, largest and most reputable healthcare certifying body has reviewed and approved the company’s processes and protocols.”

SIA has reached out to Patterson for comment.

Meanwhile, new CEO Atkinson has more than 20 years of experience scaling technology companies. He previously served as COO at Cleerly, a digital health company, and Monetate, which was acquired by Vista Equity Partners company Kibo Commerce.

CareRev has also made several other executive hires over the last eight months. It hired Patty Bedard as chief people officer, Steve Thompson as head of product, Joe Anzalone as VP of strategy and Ash Upreti as chief legal officer.

CareRev serves more than 32 large metro areas across the US.
