An Indianapolis-based healthcare staffing firm paid $86,808 after an investigation into overtime practices at the firm, the US Department of Labor announced.

The company, Network Connect Healthcare Staffing, paid straight time for all hours worked and did not pay nonexempt hourly employees the correct overtime wage of time and a half for working more than 40 hours in a workweek, according to the department. The company also did not maintain accurate payroll records.

Of the $86,808 recovered by the department, $43,404 represented back wages, according to the department. The remainder was for liquidated damages.

The back wages went to 127 healthcare professionals assigned to work at hospitals and specialty care facilities, the department reported.

SIA has reached out to the firm for comment.

“Healthcare staffing companies depend on skilled professionals to provide services that allow hospitals and other healthcare facilities to meet critical and changing demands,” Aaron Loomis, Department of Labor Wage and Hour district director in Indianapolis, said in a press release. “These workers deserve to be paid for hours they work and the overtime they earned. Employers must know the wage laws that apply to their employees and pay them accordingly.”
