Healthcare staffing now ranks as the largest staffing segment in the US in terms of revenue, according to research by Staffing Industry Analysts.

Healthcare staffing had traditionally been third largest after IT and industrial. However, healthcare staffing revenue surpassed IT last year, and SIA forecasts it will continue its lead this year with projected healthcare staffing revenue $55.1 billion compared to IT’s $41.7 billion.

SIA’s Lexicon defines healthcare staffing as:

“Within the temporary help sector, this segment includes supplemental staffing to medical facilities (hospitals, nursing homes and outpatient clinics), as well as the provision of licensed nursing personnel (RNs, LVNs in the United States), trained (medical technologists), and unlicensed staff (home health aides, homemakers, personal assistants, etc.) to home healthcare agencies.”
