Healthcare Staffing Summit: Putting an emphasis on the experience in travel nursing

October 27, 2016

When it comes to the travel nurse space, making sure travelers have an exceptional experience can be an important focus.

“I think that there are a handful of companies that are focused on creating exceptional services for travelers,” said Alan Braynin, president and CEO of Aya Healthcare. “Those companies seem to also be the ones that have the highest growth rates.”

Making sure travelers have an exceptional experience is a focus at Aya, said Braynin, who will be a speaker at the upcoming Healthcare Staffing Summit in Washington DC.

Braynin’s firm ranks No. 3 on Staffing Industry Analysts’ most recent list of largest US providers of travel nurse staffing. The panel at the Healthcare Staffing Summit is titled “Success Story Showcase: Outperforming the Industry,” and is designed to be similar to a Ted Talk.

“We pay attention to every single detail on assignment, every department is proactive in terms of anticipating what could possibly happen on a travel assignment and making sure we have successful outcomes,” Braynin said of Aya’s approach.

To get the job done, the company has a service team outside of the recruiters to monitor travelers while on assignment. The team has autonomy to fix issues in a way it thinks is appropriate.

In one example, a traveler completed was flying back to South Carolina after completing an assignment when she missed a flight connection on a Saturday in Seattle, Braynin said. Although this person was no longer even a traveler, the team had the autonomy to put her up at night in a hotel and bought another flight.

“This team also has autonomy to fix any issue the way they think appropriate,” he said. “Anything can happen when you’re traveling throughout the country.”

Braynin’s talk is on Nov. 9. Other speakers in the “Success Story Showcase” are Nate Foreman, president of Foreman Therapy Services; and Kathy Fahy, VP, sales and marketing, GrapeTree Medical Staffing Inc.
