Gen Z most worried about AI skills

February 15, 2024

Gen Z workers were the generation most concerned about someone with better AI coming along and taking their jobs, according to a survey of US workers by D2L, a global learning technology company.

More than half of Gen Z respondents, 52%, said they felt worried someone with better AI skills could replace them at work sometime over the next year. That’s slightly more than the 45% of millennials.

The group least likely to say they were concerned were Gen X workers, with only 33% saying they were worried about someone with better AI skills usurping their roles.

However, younger workers were also more likely to say they planned to take multiple professional development courses over the next year, with 26% of Gen Z and 24% of millennials saying they planned to enroll in anywhere from six to 10 courses over the next 12 months. Only 12% of Gen X said the same.

Overall, 60% of all workers said they want to use generative AI tools more frequently at work over the next year, and 49% are already using generative AI tools at least once a week at work.

D2L’s survey included 3,000 full-time and part-time US workers.
