FlexRN, a Stafford, Virginia-based nurse staffing firm, acquired Progressive Nursing Staffers.

The firms provide RNs and LPNs on a per-diem, contractual and permanent placement basis on the East Coast — specifically the Washington DC, Maryland and Virginia areas.  

Founded in 1987 and located in Springfield, Virginia, Progressive Nursing Staffers had about 100 nurses on assignment. It was owned by Gary and Diana Hughes, who will not remain with the company after the acquisition.

The transaction closed within the past month; terms were not disclosed.

FlexRN, based in Stafford, Virginia, now has about 140 nurses working on a weekly basis. Its owners entered the medical staffing business in 1999, launching Central Oregon Staffing Solutions, which operated in Oregon and Washington State. In 2001, FlexRN opened in the Washington D.C. Metro area; three years later the original staffing business in the Pacific Northwest was sold to Pace Medical Staffing.
