Electrician tops CareerBuilder’s list of the most in-demand jobs for 2018 that pay about $20 an hour and do not require a college degree. Plumbers, pipefitters and steamfitters took the second spot on the list.
The list of in-demand jobs includes those that pay about $20 or more per hour, have grown over the last five years, are projected to grow over the next five years, and don’t require a college degree. The top 10 are:
- Electricians: $26.33
- Plumbers, pipefitters and steamfitters: $25.76
- Computer user support specialists: $25.50
- Industrial machinery mechanics: $24.87
- Surgical technologists: $22.68
- Heating, air conditioning and refrigeration mechanics and installers: $22.39
- Chefs and head cooks: $21.54
- Fitness trainers and aerobics instructors: $20.23
- Medical records and health information technicians: $19.96
- Self-enrichment education teachers: $19.91
“The path to success is different for everyone,” CareerBuilder CEO Matt Ferguson said. “You can build a lucrative career through apprenticeships, post-secondary certificates or on-the-job training. There is significant demand for workers in everything from skilled trades to technology and health-related fields, and you can get your foot in the door without a formal degree.”
The study is based on data from Emsi, which aggregates information from multiple national and local employment resources.
