Denver area posts lowest jobless rates among large metros

The Denver metropolitan area posted the lowest unemployment rate among all large, US metropolitan areas at 2.2% in August, the US Bureau of Labor Statistics announced today.

The highest jobless rate among large metropolitan areas in May was posted by the Cleveland-Elyria area in Ohio, at 6.8%.

The lowest unemployment rates among metropolitan areas of all sizes was in Fort Collins, Colo., at 1.8%, followed closely by Boulder, Colo., at 1.9%. El Centro, Calif., had the highest unemployment rate at 24.9%, followed by Yuma, Ariz., at 23.7%.

Hurricane Harvey had no discernible effect on the employment and unemployment data for August, the Bureau reported. Household survey data collection was completed before the storm. Establishment survey data collection for this news release was largely completed prior to the storm, and collection rates were within normal ranges nationally and for the affected areas.
