Denver area posts lowest jobless rate

The Denver-Aurora-Lakewood area in Colorado had the lowest unemployment rate in July, 3.4%, among large US metropolitan areas with populations of 1 million or more, the US Bureau of Labor Statistics reported today.

The highest jobless rate among large metropolitan areas was in California’s Riverside-San Bernardino-Ontario area at 6.9% in July.

Among metropolitan areas of all sizes, Sioux Falls, SD, had the lowest unemployment rate in July at 1.9%. Yuma, Ariz., and El Centro, Calif., had the highest unemployment rates at 24.3% and 24.2%, respectively. El Centro also posted the largest over-the-year unemployment rate decrease in July, down 3.2 percentage points.
