Learning management platform provider Cornerstone OnDemand Inc. announced this week it struck a deal to acquire Saba Software, a Dublin, California-based company that operates in the learning space and talent management space.

In October 2018, Saba had acquired Lumesse, a provider of talent acquisition and talent management, including RPO, and learning experience technology.

This week’s acquisition of Saba by Cornerstone could mark evidence of a convergence of learning and talent management systems. Another example of a learning platform acquiring a talent acquisition platform was in December when Degreed acquired London-based Adepto.

Cornerstone’s acquisition of Saba is valued at nearly $1.40 billion. The combined company will have more than 75 million users and serve approximately 7,000 organizations.

Cornerstone, based in Santa Monica, California, said the deal is subject to closing conditions and regulatory review. It is expected to close in the second quarter.
