Class-action lawsuit claims hundreds of recruits paid for nonexistent British Columbia jobs (Surrey Now-Leader)

September 21, 2017

The Supreme Court of British Columbia certified a class-action lawsuit against Mac’s Convenience Stores and three immigration consultants in connection with allegations that foreign workers were promised nonexistent jobs, Surrey Now-Leader reports. Four plaintiffs represent 450 foreign workers in the lawsuit, which alleges prospective employees paid thousands of dollars and were promised contracts to work under Canada’s Temporary Foreign Worker program; however, when the recruits got to Canada there were no jobs at Mac’s and they couldn’t work elsewhere.
