Canadian staffing index rises over month, but still down compared to last year

January 03, 2024

The Canadian Staffing Index released by the Association of Canadian Search, Employment and Staffing Services rose by 2.1% in November from October to a reading of 96. However, the index is down 12.7% on a year-over-year basis.

β€œThe index continues the trend of double-digit year-over-year declines in volume that has characterized much of 2023,” Timothy Landhuis, VP of research at Staffing Industry Analysts, said in a statement.

The index reflects the volume of labor supplied by temporary staffing agencies in Canada and is based upon the number of billed hours reported by a monthly panel of staffing firms. The index value of 100 corresponds to the size of the industry in July 2008, when the index began.

It is compiled by Staffing Industry Analysts and released by the ACSESS.
