Canada adds 28,800 jobs in September: ADP

October 18, 2018

Employment in Canada rose by 28,800 jobs in September from August, according to the ADP Canada National Employment Report. Additionally, job gains in August were revised upward to 42,700 jobs from the previously reported gain of 13,600 jobs.

“The labor market was quite strong in the month of September,” said Ahu Yildirmaz, VP and co-head of the ADP Research Institute. “Although the goods producing sector struggled this month, we saw significant growth in many industries. Trade, for example, continued its steady growth adding the most jobs the sector has seen all year.”

In the goods-producing sector, jobs fell by 3,300 in manufacturing; 2,200 in natural resources and mining; and 200 in construction.

Jobs in education and healthcare led gains in the service-providing sector, up by 14,300, followed by a gain of 13,300 jobs in the trade/transportation and utilities sector.

On the flip side, leisure and hospitality jobs fell by 2,300.

The ADP Research Institute produces the report in close collaboration with Moody’s Analytics Inc. Derived from actual ADP payroll data, the report measures the change in total nonfarm payroll employment each month on a seasonally adjusted basis.
