A bill approved by the California Legislature would increase the time required for notice of impending mass layoffs to 75 days from 60 days under the state’s WARN Act, the Los Angeles Times reported. The bill now goes to the governor. It was inspired by layoffs at large tech firms such as Google, Meta and X (formerly Twitter), according to the reporting. The bill also expands the WARN Act to apply to employees of labor contractors if the employees have worked at least six of the 12 months and at least 60 hours preceding the date of which the mass layoff notice is required, according to the article. Employees with a defined end date are exempt.
