California business groups appeal to legislature over top court’s IC ruling (San Fernando Business Journal)

June 28, 2018

Business groups in California are appealing to that state’s legislature after the California Supreme Court adopted a tougher standard for properly classifying independent contractors. The San Fernando (Calif.) Business Journal reported that several local chambers of commerce and businesses sent a letter to the state’s legislature detailing their concerns. It said the ruling limits opportunities for individuals seeking flexible work and that companies in Massachusetts, where a similar standard exists, have faced significant litigation.

The ruling affects companies in California as well as firms with independent contractors in the state. For more on the ruling, see Staffing Industry Review magazine.
