Boston-based bakery, execs, staffing firms to pay $440,000 in restitution and penalties

A Boston-based bakery, two executives and five temporary staffing agencies that provided workers were issued 30 citations totaling more than $440,000 in restitution to dozens of workers and penalties for violating a variety state wage and hour rules, the Massachusetts Attorney General’s Office announced Wednesday.

Eleven citations were issued to Dutch Maid Bakery Inc., Dutch Maid Bakery Massachusetts Business Trust, President Gary Blanken, Treasurer Joseph Pearson Jr., Dorchester, Massachusetts-based Hub Personnel Services Inc. and Hub Personnel President and Treasurer Hoang Walter Nguyen, according to the Attorney General’s Office.

The citations were for wage and hour violations that included failure to pay minimum wage and overtime wages, failure to furnish true and accurate payroll records and failure to keep true and accurate payroll records.

“Workers deserve to be paid their rightful wage — and when they aren’t, our office will hold their employer accountable,” said Attorney General Andrea Joy Campbell.

Additionally, 19 citations were issued to other staffing firms that provided workers to Dutch Maid Bakery, according to the office. These firms are all based in Dorchester and are Dorchester Temp Service Corp., General Employment Service Inc., Amado Enterprises Inc., Amado Staffing d/b/a Amado Enterprises and AR Services Inc. The citations included violations of wage and overtime laws as well as independent contractor misclassification and failure to make timely payment of wages.
