Bonus pay, sick leave rank as top benefits for hourly workers

Bonus pay and paid sick leave rank among the top benefits hourly workers are interested in, according to a survey by Branch, a workforce payments platform.

The survey, which included more than 3,000 hourly workers, found these are the top benefits they would like to see:

  • Bonus pay, 73%
  • Paid/sick time off, 63%
  • Flexible scheduling, 46%
  • On-demand/faster pay, 31%
  • Career development/training, 26%

Branch’s report also found that 77% of hourly workers cited higher wages when asked what they want most from their workplace. It also found that 56% want a stable, predictable work schedule; 39% want greater flexibility and control over when they work.

More than half of hourly workers, 57%, said they experienced burnout in the last year, and 76% feel their workplace is understaffed.

Other findings in the report include:

  • 56% are not concerned about the impact of AI on their jobs
  • 53% have expressed interest in experimenting with AI tools
  • 56% do not have plans to switch jobs
  • 45% have negative perception of the economy
  • 57% report reliable childcare impacts their ability to work or pick up more hours; for Gen Z and millennials, this rises to 66%
  • 62% cite home/rent affordability as their top financial concern, and 70% said their home costs have increased in the past year
