Barrett names former insurance exec as CFO

July 14, 2016

Barrett Business Services Inc. (NASD: BBSI), a provider of staffing and professional employer organization services, appointed Gary Kramer as CFO, effective Aug. 10. Following a transition period, he will also serve as the company’s principal accounting officer.

Kramer succeeds interim CFO Tom Carley, who stepped into the role in March when Barrett terminated James Miller after he informed the company’s audit and compliance committee that he made unsupported journal entries in the company’s financial records during each calendar quarter of 2013.

Kramer has more than 15 years of insurance industry experience. He most recently was senior VP for global services at Chubb Limited (formerly ACE Ltd.) beginning in 2013, where he led the global services team to support multinational businesses and meet the underwriting and servicing needs of large multinational customers. He also oversaw the delivery of risk management products, programs and services through all lines of business underwritten for global programs of US-based companies. Between 2004 and 2013, Kramer held a variety of positions within the ACE Group companies, including divisional financial officer of ACE Financial Solutions Inc., and senior financial analyst with ACE North America. Other positions held by Kramer during his career include senior accountant at Admiral Insurance Company from 2002 until 2004, and treasury analyst at Kimble Glass from 2000 until 2002.

“After an extensive national search where we had the opportunity to meet a number of strong candidates, Gary’s financial expertise and approach to leadership stood out sharply,” said Barrett President and CEO Michael Elich. “Gary is a long-term strategic thinker who is well aligned with our culture and our management team. Additionally, his expertise in establishing systems and controls will support continued stability in our model.”
