Baltimore staffing operator gets three years in prison, must pay $3.4 million

December 13, 2022

A staffing firm operator in Baltimore was sentenced on Monday to three years in prison after not paying more than $2 million in payroll taxes, according to the US Department of Justice. The operator will also have to pay $3.4 million in restitution.

Jonas Purisch operated two staffing companies — Titan Staffing Network Inc and Titan Services LLC — and both supplied workers to manufacturing clients. However, the Justice Department reported that while Purisch withheld funds from employees for taxes, he did not remit more than $2 million in employment taxes between March 2018 and March 2021.

He pleaded guilty to the charges in October.

Purisch, as part of a plea deal, will also pay approximately $3.4 million in restitution to the US, according to the department.

Purisch had a brush with the law previously, according to the department. In April 2013, he was convicted in the District of Maryland for filing a false individual income tax return and willful failure to file a tax return. He was sentenced to three months in prison for those offenses.
