Applicants turn down interviews/job offers for some organizations lacking in DE&I

September 29, 2021

Job candidates are more interested in diversity and inclusion as well as remote work and recruiters are feeling stress, according to the “2021 Recruiter Nation Report” by Jobvite.

The survey found that 40% of recruiters said candidates have turned down an interview or job offer due to an organization’s lack of diversity.

In addition, 49% said job seekers are inquiring about diversity and inclusion initiatives more than they did in the previous year — up 16 percentage points from a similar survey in 2020.

However, 20% of recruiters said their organizations have no goals for improving diversity.

“Companies are experiencing a new kind of worker revolution where candidates and employees feel empowered to choose a job where they feel supported and valued,” said Kerry Gilliam, VP of marketing at Jobvite. “The pressure is on for organizations to respond to these challenges by leveraging the right strategies that quickly get talent through the door and embracing initiatives that align with candidates’ values and priorities.”

Jobvite’s report included more than 800 recruiters based in the US.

It also found that 65% of recruiters reported increased stress levels, with one in five reporting a drastic increase.

When it comes to job candidates, 60% of recruiters said they believe organizations will lose high-quality employees if they don’t transition to a remote-first culture. And 57% believe lack of work-from-home policies make it harder to attract potential candidates.

Other findings in the report included:

  • 47% say lack of skilled/qualified candidates is the biggest concern in hiring quality talent.
  • 54% plan to outsource more jobs to freelancers, and 40% are making more hires from internal employees.
  • Facebook is the most-used social media channel for recruiting, with 68% saying they use it. In addition, 45% of recruiters use Instagram while 20% use Snapchat and 16% use TikTok.
