Aloha state posts lowest unemployment rate at 2.2% in September

Hawaii posted the lowest unemployment rate among all states in September at 2.2%, the US Bureau of Labor Statistics reported today. Iowa was next at 2.5% on a seasonally adjusted basis, followed by Idaho, New Hampshire and North Dakota, all at 2.7%.

Alaska recorded the highest jobless rate among all states at 6.5% in September.

The BLS reported Hurricane Florence affected parts of the East Coast during the September reference periods for the establishment and household surveys. Response rates for the two surveys were within normal ranges both nationally and for the affected areas.

Unemployment rates fell in September in nine states; the largest were 0.2 percentage-point decreases in Alaska, Florida, and Oklahoma.

Four states had month-over-month rate increases: Colorado’s and Wyoming’s rose 0.2 percentage point while Maine and North Dakota both posted 0.1 percentage-point increases.
