Alaska posts highest jobless rate in May

Alaska posted the highest unemployment rate among all states in May at 6.7%, according to data released today by the US Bureau of Labor Statistics. Illinois and Louisiana followed at 6.4% and 6.3% respectively.

The District of Columbia had a rate of 6.1%.

South Dakota and New Hampshire had the lowest jobless rates in May, at 2.5% and 2.7% respectively. Arkansas at 3.8% reached its lowest jobless rate since comparable records began in 1976.

The national jobless rate declined by 0.3 percentage point from April to 4.7 percent and was 0.8 point lower than in May 2015.
