Alaska posts highest jobless rate; Arkansas, Oregon hit record lows

Alaska posted the highest unemployment rate among all states in March at 6.6%, according to data released today by the US Bureau of Labor Statistics. Illinois and West Virginia closely followed at 6.5% each.

The District of Columbia also had a rate of 6.5%.

South Dakota and New Hampshire had the lowest jobless rates in February, at 2.5% and 2.6% respectively. Arkansas at 4.0% and Oregon at 4.5% reached their lowest jobless rates since comparable records began in 1976.

The national jobless rate edged up to 5.0% in March from 4.9% in February and was 0.5 percentage point lower than in March 2015.
