Active Staffing has acquired OnStaff USA, a provider of industrial and office/clerical staffing based in Portage, Michigan, with seven other locations in the state.

The deal will help OnStaff and Active Staffing expand to new geographies, Active Staffing CEO Benjamin Elzweig said in a call with SIA.

“They are very similar to us; they are a family business that has been around for over 20 years,” Elzweig said. “It helps us bridge that gap going further west. It’s just a good synergy between the two companies.”

The two companies also share the same values and same niche, making the deal more of a merger, he said.

Active Staffing also has a specialty transportation and direct hire business lines that can start working with OnStaff right away.

Plans call for the OnStaff brand and its executive board to remain.

Active Staffing, based in New York, now has 15 branches with this deal and is projecting revenue of $75 million for 2024. The firm placed 7,000 W-2 temporary workers last year.

This is the latest in several recent acquisitions by Active Staffing, which last year acquired Normann Staffing Services, a New Jersey-based staffing firm; Phoenix Staffing Inc., a Maryland-based staffing firm; and Pegasus, a Texas-based industrial staffing provider. Active Staffing also invested in Glyde Talent, a platform that automates job posting, enables outreach to candidates and provides candidate screening.

Active Staffing has plans to continue expanding across the US. Elzweig said Active Staffing’s acquisition process includes keeping on board the people who made the companies successful and giving them more resources to grow their brands.
