89% unfamiliar with the term ‘gig economy’

May 19, 2016

The human cloud is considered part of staffing, but 89% of people in the US are not familiar with the term “gig economy,” according to a report by the Pew Research Center. Ride-hailing apps, such as those offered by human cloud firms Uber and Lyft, have only been used by 15% of Americans. Also, people tend to view ride-hailing apps as software platforms that connect independent drivers with people seeking rides. “66% of ride-hailing users think of the drivers who work for these services as independent contractors, while 23% view them as employees of the app or service.”
