January 08, 2024

A majority of workers, 85%, are worried they will lose their jobs this year, according to a report by MyPerfectResume. While 50% said they are a little worried about losing their jobs, 35% reported they are definitely worried.

The top reason fueling job-loss fears this year is the growth of artificial intelligence, cited by 78% of workers. In addition, 62% of respondents expect the labor market to be more stressful than in previous years.

“The 2024 workplace landscape promises a dynamic blend of challenges and opportunities,” Kellie Hanna, career expert at MyPerfectResume, said in a press statement. “To succeed, workers and employers alike must recognize that adaptability is the name of the game while striking a balance between addressing challenges and seizing opportunities will determine the winners. Navigating this complex terrain will demand more than just resilience; it will require a high degree of professionalism and a strategic vision.”

The report also found that 69% of workers believe competition for jobs will increase this year, while 45% predict a reduction in remote job openings. However, 67% of workers believe the gig economy will continue to expand in 2024, and 87% said more companies would introduce return-to-office policies than in 2023.

More workers, 72%, believe there will be a higher demand for specialists this year, according to the report. In addition, 61% expect recruitment processes to take longer, and 69% agree or strongly agree that more people will quit if they don’t consider their salaries rewarding.

The survey included responses from 1,867 US workers and was conducted between Oct. 18 and 19, 2023.
