80% of US workers consider pay transparency a critical factor: Randstad

October 17, 2023

Pay transparency has emerged as a critical factor for a majority of US workers, with 80% considering it extremely important when applying for jobs or accepting job offers, according to a survey by Randstad.

When it comes to job satisfaction, 67% of workers consider salary and compensation as the most important factors.

However, the study noted that the level of consistency in companies listing salary information in job descriptions remains mixed. Among the respondents, 49% reported that their companies do so.

When breaking down the data by age, the survey found that 48.4% of workers aged 55 to 65 reported their companies did not disclose salary information. At the same time, gender disparities were also observed, with 61.5% of men more likely to encounter salary information in job descriptions compared to 51.5% of women.

The survey also found 58% of younger workers aged 18 to 24 were comfortable discussing salaries.

Furthermore, 68% of respondents stated they would request a raise if they discovered their coworkers with the same role were earning more.

The survey includes responses from 1,900 US workers.
