70% of companies plan to back-fill roles eliminated during Covid-19: Adecco survey

Nearly 70% of organizations that furloughed or laid off employees during the pandemic will back-fill roles that were eliminated, according to a survey by The Adecco Group’s Professional Recruitment and Solutions division in North America.

It also found that 87% of those who say they plan to back-fill roles plan to do so in less than a year; 62% said less than six months.

“2020 has not been a typical year for anyone and it has shown us just how resilient professional organizations can be,” said Laurie Chamberlin, president of The Adecco Group’s Professional Recruitment and Solutions unit in North America. “In the months and years to come, companies around the world will solve problems using the lessons learned from this unique period in time.” 

Adecco’s survey included 1,152 hiring decision makers, managers and above in the US. The respondents were in marketing, accounting/finance, human resources, legal or in general department or administrative roles.

In other findings in the report:

  • For those companies hiring workers, 47% of employers say the rigor of their hiring criteria is unchanged from before Covid-19, and 30% indicated that rigor has increased.
  • 78% say it is likely their organization will offer salary raises this year.
  • 60% say their organizations will still offer monetary bonuses to employees this year.
  • 40% of respondents indicate the number of available candidates has increased.
  • 42% said the salary of an employee would be less for those hired post-pandemic and 40% said it would be the same.
  • 51% say the use of virtual screenings has increased amid the pandemic.
