The average salary for a US technology professional rose 2.3% to $111,348 in 2022 - up from $108,857 in 2021 - according to the 2023 Tech Salary Report, released by tech jobs website Dice, a DHI Group Inc. (NYSE: DHX) brand.

“The salary growth in 2022 is yet another indicator that, even with the turbulence in segments of the tech world, demand for skilled technology professionals remains historically high,” Dice CEO Art Zeile said.

“While we are in an uncertain economic climate, nearly every organization still has a huge need for tech professionals across many roles,” Zeile continued. “New projects, core operations, digital upgrades, data security, product, and platform - these require support from experts, and that’s why we’ll continue to see salaries and compensation grow, especially for ultra-specialized skill sets.”

Other findings:

  • On a state level, Massachusetts had the highest average tech salary, followed by Oregon and California.

  • Tech workers in several US cities experienced double-digit growth in salaries. Phoenix led the way with a 26% increase, followed by Tampa (+19%); Columbus, Ohio (+16%); Portland, Oregon (+16%); and Charlotte, North Carolina (+11%).

  • The highest-paying industries for technology professionals were consulting at $131,995, medical/pharmaceutical at $129,118, and finance and banking at $128,571.

  • Tech professionals with data-related skills - such as Elasticsearch, Apache Kafka, Teradata and Redis - earned salaries above $140,000 a year, significantly higher than the average tech salary.

The 2022 Dice Salary Survey was administered online by Dice.com among its registered Dice job seekers and site visitors between Aug. 16, 2022, and Oct. 17, 2022. A total of 7,098 completed surveys were represented in the report.
