Cognizant revenue slips 1.2%, though growth seen in Europe

First-quarter revenue at Cognizant Technology Solutions Corp. (NASDAQ: CTSH) fell 1.2% in constant currency. The IT services giant reported revenue declines across geographies except for Continental Europe, where revenue rose 3.1%.

“During the first quarter, we delivered revenue above the high-end of our guidance range and continued to make progress against our strategic priorities,” CEO Ravi Kumar S said in a press release.

The number of employees at Cognizant fell by 7,100 year over year in the first quarter to 344,400. The company also reported $23.0 million in restructuring charges in the first quarter.

The quarter also includes Cognizant’s acquisition of IT services and consulting firm Thirdera.

“Our recently completed acquisition of Thirdera, [a] ServiceNow partner, is already opening new growth opportunities and expanding our pipeline,” CFO Jatin Dalal, said in a press release.

Guidance

Cognizant forecast second-quarter revenue to be down between 1.4% to 2.9% on a constant currency basis, a decline of between 1.0% and 2.5%.

Shares in Cognizant were up 0.83% to $65.91 as of 1:56 p.m. Eastern time today. They were 12.72% above their 52-week low.
