Letter from the Editor

You can’t eliminate risk, you can just mitigate it. And given that staffing is a $129 billion industry, of course there’s room for error. So to help keep your company compliant, the editorial team at Staffing Industry Review worked hard to bring you solutions to legal snares. As attorney George Reardon mentions in his cover story, the contingent workforce has been great for the United States’ economy. But there are risks that buyers of staffing services and their providers should recognize and deal with together. He outlines what staffing firms should watch out for. A must-read for all industry professionals.

Sometimes, though, it’s hard to separate the myths from the reality. Another legal expert, Eric H. Rumbaugh, warns that some companies believe that by engaging the services of a staffing firm, they have reduced the risks associated with engaging contingent workers. Obviously, that is not true. He and associate attorney Mark Lotito debunk some prevailing staffing myths. Read and pass it on to your clients. They will thank you. In a similar fashion, Mark Roberts also exposes the truth about H-1B visas and why it’s a concern for everyone.

Our job — thankfully — is not just about highlighting risks that could hurt your business. We want to bring you information that can help you grow. In that spirit, we are pleased to bring you The Buzz, a monthly column that showcases products and services that have garnered the staffing industry’s attention. These are not necessarily startup firms. They are just companies that have created value for the staffing industry through their goods and services. We welcome your recommendations and hope The Buzz helps take your business to the next level.

From advice to best practices to metrics, you’ll always find Staffing Industry Review ready to help.
