Uber launches its Uber Works industrial staffing app

Uber Technologies Inc. (NYSE: UBER) launched its Uber Works industrial staffing app in Miami, the human cloud firm announced this week. The move comes after the October announcement of Uber Works in Chicago, the first city with the service.

“Uber sees a great potential in driving more reliability for businesses that have a need to fill available shifts, which is why we have taken a partnership approach,” Uber Works CEO Andrey Liscovich said. “We will be working with local organizations, such as the YWCA Greater Miami-Dade, to help support access to work for people all across South Florida communities.”

Employers post a job, then Uber Works dispatches a pre-qualified worker. The app also has a two-way rating system for employers and workers.

Uber Works has partnered with staffing agencies in Miami, including TrueBlue Inc. (NYSE: TBI), which will employ, pay and handle worker benefits.

“TrueBlue has 30-plus years of expertise in on-demand staffing and is taking care of the employment needs of workers booking jobs through Uber Works,” TrueBlue CEO Patrick Beharelle said. “Our technology and service complements Uber Works well. South Florida workers can expect to be paid quickly and experience other key benefits.”

Uber Works is also working with South Florida organizations that can provide skills training, including in areas like commercial cleaning and food services.

“The on-demand labor force is transforming the way many Floridians and businesses work,” said Michelle Dennard, president and CEO of CareerSource Florida, an agency that provides policy direction for programs administered by the Florida Department of Economic Opportunity. “The launch of Uber Works in Miami will allow greater access to opportunities for Floridians in a wide range of industries and provide businesses another option in filling immediate staffing needs.”
