Contract workers ratify first union contract with Google supplier HCL America

The United Steelworkers Union on July 29 announced that a group of 65 contingent workers at a Google facility in Pittsburgh have ratified their first union contract with Google contractor HCL America Inc. The union had previously announced a tentative agreement.

“After close to two years of hard work, patience and solidarity from our members at HCL, we are proud of what we achieved in this agreement,” USW International President Tom Conway said.

The contract lasts three years and aims to improve wages, job security and working conditions, according to the union. It takes effect immediately.

In a statement, HCL said: “HCL is pleased to have reached a tentative agreement with the USW and is looking forward to finalizing and executing the agreement. Throughout this process, HCL has been actively engaged in meaningful and fair discussions with the USW in good faith. We are proud of the thousands of jobs we have created in the United States and around the globe, including in Pittsburgh, and look forward to continuing our sustained growth.”
