IT employers to increase full-time hiring in second half of year

Of IT decision-makers polled by Robert Half Technology, 67% plan to hire full-time employees in the second half of the year, up four points from a similar survey for the first half. In addition, 95% said they plan to bring in project professionals. However, finding employees with the right skills remains tough; 89% said it’s difficult to find skilled IT professionals.

Survey respondents cited these skills as immediately needed for their organizations:

  1. Cybersecurity
  2. Cloud security
  3. Cloud computing
  4. Cloud architecture
  5. Business intelligence and reporting services
  6. Database management
  7. Virtualization, enterprise resource planning (ERP) implementation, DevOps (tie)

“Employers around the country and across all industries are challenged when it comes to growing their teams because of a limited pool of available talent,” said John Reed, executive VP of Robert Half. “In a skills shortage, IT leaders are seeing the benefits of enhancing their teams with project support professionals.

The survey includes responses from more than 2,800 IT decision makers in 28 major US markets.

Miami is the metropolitan area expected to see the most hiring with 78% of tech leaders expanding their teams. Austin, Texas, ranked as the area to see the second-most hiring with 75% of tech leaders expanding their teams.
