Infosys appoints former Capgemini exec as CEO

IT services provider Infosys appointed Salil Parekh as CEO and managing director of the company, effective Jan. 2. He replaces U B Pravin Rao, who assumed the role on an iterim basis in August when Vishal Sikka resigned after a long-running feud with the company’s founders.

Rao will continue as COO and a full-time director of the company.

Parekh most recently was a member of the group executive board of Capgemini Group, a Paris-based IT services firm.

Reuters reported investors remain concerned about how Parekh will deal with potential strains in the relationship with the founders, which cost Infosys billions of dollars in market capitalization earlier this year.

“The incoming CEO will have to maintain a good rapport with the founders and take care of corporate governance,” R.K. Gupta, managing director at Taurus Asset Management, which owns shares in Infosys, told Reuters. “I believe both the CEO and founders will be cautious in their dealings with one another.”
