IT leads professional staffing segments in updated largest US staffing firms list

IT staffing was well represented in the recently released Staffing Industry Analysts Largest Staffing Firms in the United States: 2017 Update report. The report ranks staffing firms by revenue and corresponding market shares. To qualify for the list, firms must have generated at least $100 million in US staffing revenue in 2016.

According to our estimates, of the 144 firms that qualified for inclusion, 43 indicated IT as their largest skill segment supplied. This lagged only industrial, which was the primary segment of 45 staffing firms on the list. The 43 firms with IT as a primary segment is up from 40 in the 2016 update.

Within professional staffing, IT made up nearly half (46%) of the 93 qualifying firms, easily the most of any professional segment.

A separate report, our Largest IT Staffing Firms in the United States: 2017 Update, provides greater detail specific to the IT segment. The list features 43 firms that produced at least $100 million in temporary IT staffing revenue in 2016 in the US, combining to represent $18.0 billion, or 63% of the total US temporary IT staffing market, based on our estimates.

The market share controlled by the five largest suppliers has held remarkably steady at 30% since 2010. However, the share held by the top 15 has declined from 50% to 46% over the same period, illustrating further fragmentation of an already fragmented market. Much of the share gains are attributed to a growing number of midsize firms that have benefited by specializing in attractive niche practices.

Each of these reports, available to Staffing Industry Analysts corporate members, contain extensive information on the staffing industry competitive landscape.
