Largest engineering staffing provider Aerotek separates into three operating companies

Aerotek, part of the Allegis Group, separated its three specialized business units — industrial, professional and engineering and sciences — into independent operating companies.

“The decision to move our specialized business units to separate companies was an important next step in Aerotek’s business evolution, allowing us to put more power behind everything we’ve learned to better serve our people and our customers,” said Andy Hilger, president of Allegis Group.

The new independent operating companies are:

  • Aerotek, which provides staffing and workforce solutions in manufacturing, logistics and construction. Aerotek has more than 13,000 clients and 200,000 light industrial and skilled trades contract employees.
  • Aston Carter, which is focused on professional staffing, including finance/accounting, governance, risk and compliance, operations, administrative, and customer support.
  • Actalent, a new brand that encompasses the engineering and science division formerly under Aerotek that was founded in 1983. It also includes EASi, an engineering and sciences services company founded in 1991 and acquired by Allegis Group in 2005.

“As the job market began to shift and more people actively sought change, it provided us with an opportunity to rethink our business alignment and harness our expertise to better meet those needs,” said Tom Kelly, president of Aerotek.

Aston Carter will be led by President Stuart Ferguson, and Actalent will be led by President Chad Koele.

Actalent is headquartered in Hanover, Maryland, and serves more than 4,500 clients in the US, Canada, Asia Pacific and Europe. It has 5,000 employees and 27,500 engineering and science consultants.

Aston Carter was founded in 1997 and has been part of Allegis Group since 2011. It has more than 400 offices worldwide.

Todd Mohr, president of Aerotek since 2011, played an instrumental role in transitioning the business into three independent operating companies. Mohr will remain part of the Allegis Group leadership team, transitioning to the role of strategic advisor.
