World – Hiring intent on the rise worldwide for December quarter: TeamLease

30 November 2021

Global hiring intent has risen across geographies for the third quarter ending in December 2021, according to the latest Employment Outlook by Indian staffing firm TeamLease.

The Outlook showed that hiring intent for the third quarter, when compared to the second quarter, saw a gain of 4% in the Americas, 3% in Africa, 3% in the Middle East, 3% in Asia Pacific and 2% in Europe.

An all-round improvement in hiring intent across global geographies signals a gradual recovery of labour markets across the world, according to the report.

TeamLease noted that pandemic-induced uncertainty, and regional resurgences notwithstanding a worldwide recovery, however subdued, is likely to take place, led primarily by the Americas. However, the quality of jobs created and wages remain a significant concern.

Meanwhile, Africa is likely to witness a substantial increase in the number of jobs created over the next three months. However, the mismatch between population growth and the rate of creation of decent work is likely to lead to large scale low quality employment.

In the Middle East, improvements in the second half of 2021 are paving the way for significantly higher employment numbers and declining unemployment. Recovery is likely to be incomplete though due to nearly a million having left the labour force, the report noted.

In Europe, on the other hand, a combination of unemployment and labour force exits were offset by a shift from wage and salaried employment to own-account and contributing family work.

The labour market recovery in APAC is being catalysed by relative success in restraining the pandemic. But, this trend is expected to be impeded by global factors, TeamLease noted.
