View All NewsWorld – Freelancer.com says fastest-growing jobs involved nonfungible tokens; bitcoin jobs fall
Demand rose for freelancers with skills in nonfungible tokens, or NFTs, in the first quarter, but demand for bitcoin skills fell, according to a report released last week by Freelancer.com.
The number of jobs involving NFTs rose 37.60% from the fourth quarter of 2021 to the first quarter of 2022 — it ranked as the fastest-growing category of jobs. There were approximately 2,814 NFT-related jobs on Freelancer.com.
An NFT is a digital object — artwork, sports memorabilia, famous photographs and anything else that can be digitized — created by using blockchain technology.
Other design-related jobs also saw growth.
“In the first quarter we saw ambitious trading of monkey jpegs suck the volume out of bitcoin-related projects,” said Matt Barrie, chief executive at Freelancer.com. “It remains to be seen whether NFTs in their current form are a flash in the pan or whether they become an enduring asset class for investment over speculative trading.”
Separately, the number of bitcoin-related jobs fell 31.16% in the first quarter when compared to the fourth quarter of 2021 to a total of 1,045. However, two other categories saw larger decreases quarter over quarter: Statistics-related jobs fell 31.86% to 2,160 and Microsoft Office-related jobs fell 31.67% to 1,329.
Freelancer.com’s “Fast 50” quarterly index is based on data from 351,000 jobs posted on Freelancer.com during the first quarter. According to Freelancer.com, the Freelancer Fast 50 index is the world’s largest forward indicator of trends in online jobs related to industries, technologies, products, and companies.
