Vietnam – Recruitment challenges especially among management positions

20 October 2021

According to VnExpress, 70% of recruitment demand in Vietnam for mid-senior personnel positions in electronics, mechanics, and wooden furniture was down year over year due to temporary factory closures. The electronics industry could face a slow recovery given that fourth quarter orders have been moved to other countries.

In addition, energy companies have lowered salaries, making it hard to attract candidates, and many fast-moving consumers goods and retail companies have no recruitment plans for the fourth quarter.

Recruiting companies are primarily limiting their searches to candidates already in Vietnam to avoid the difficulties of hiring foreign workers.

Despite these recruiting challenges, big electronics companies in the north are investing/expanding in the country. Retail companies gradually opening means that recruitment demand is expected to increase in early 2022. And financial-banking companies are increasingly demanding top-quality personnel particularly in IT and digital transformation.

The article points to a growing recruitment demand for Chinese speakers, given some business has shifted from China to Vietnam.
