The average hourly wage for temporary workers across three major metropolitan areas (Kanto, Tokai and Kansai) stood at JPY 1,558 (USD 10.97) (up JPY 53 from the previous year and down JPY 1 from the previous month (USD 0.37 and USD 0.0070), according to data from Dip Corp. (2379:TYO), a staffing firm and job board operator based in Tokyo. 

At the same time, the number of temporary staffing job openings for the three areas was about 162,000, down 7.7% from the previous year and up 5.5% from the previous month.

The average hourly wage in each area is JPY 1,657 (USD 11.66) in the Kanto area up JPY 58 from the previous year, down JPY 2 from the previous month (USD 0.41 and USD 0.014), JPY 1,382 (USD 9.73) in the Tokai area up JPY 14 (USD 0.09) from the previous year, no change from the previous month, and JPY 1,440 (USD 10.14) in the Kansai area,an increase of JPY 60 (USD 0.42) from the previous year, no change from the previous month.

Further data from Baitoru, the part-time job information website, showed the average hourly wage for part-time workers across the three areas and the Kyushu area in May was JPY 1,276 (USD 8.98) up JPY 54 from the previous year and JPY 40 from the previous month (USD 0.38 and USD 0.28). At the same time, the number of job openings posted on Baitoru was approximately 298,000, up 11.9% from the previous year and from the previous month. It decreased by 2.2%.

The average hourly wage in the Kanto area is JPY 1,299 (USD 9.14) up JPY 47 from the previous year and JPY 29 from the previous month (USD 0.33 and USD 0.20), the average hourly wage in the Tokai area is JPY 1,234 (USD 8.69) up JPY 48 from the previous year and JPY 41 from the previous month (USD 0.34 and 0.29), and the average hourly wage in the Kansai area is JPY 1,294. The average hourly wage in the Kyushu area was JPY 1,225 (USD 8.62) up JPY 56 year-on-year, up JPY 46 month-on-month (USD 0.39 and USD 0.32).
