Taiwan – Seasonally adjusted unemployment rate improves to 3.67% in August

Taiwan’s seasonally adjusted unemployment rate fell to 3.67% in August 2022 from 4.08% in August 2022, according to data from the Directorate General of Budget Accounting and Statistics.

When compared to the previous month, the seasonally adjusted unemployment rate declined by 0.01% to 3.67%.

On a non-seasonally adjusted basis, the unemployment rate rose over the month by 0.01% to 3.79% in August. Compared with that of the previous year, the unemployment rate declined by 0.45% in August.

The number of unemployed persons was 449,000 in August, an increase of 1,000 (+0.20%) but a decrease of 56,000 (-11.10%) from the previous month and that of the previous year, respectively.

Meanwhile, total employment increased by 3,000 (+0.03%) when compared with that of the previous year to 11.40 million. Month-on-month, total employment increased by 5,000 (+0.04%).

When compared with the previous year, employment in agriculture and the industry sector decreased by 9,000 (-1.67%) and 18,000 (-0.43%) respectively; however, the services sector increased by 29,000 (+0.43%) in August.

Taiwan’s labour force participation rate rose by 0.01% to 59.29% in August; moreover, it also rose by 0.31% from that of the previous year.
