Taiwan – Jobless rate ticks up slightly in September to 3.96%

The unemployment rate in Taiwan rose by 0.13% in September 2021 when compared to the same period a year ago to 3.96%, according to the latest manpower survey results from Directorate General Budget, Accounting and Statistics.

When compared to the previous month, the unemployment rate declined by 0.28% in September. At the same time, the seasonally adjusted unemployment rate also declined over the month by 0.16% to 3.92%.

Total employment increased over the month by 18,000 (+0.16%) in September to 11.41 million; however, it decreased by 87,000 (-0.75%) when compared with that of the previous year.

When compared to the previous year, employment in agriculture, the good-producing sector and the services-providing sector decreased by 6,000(-1.10%), 15,000(-0.38%) and 65,000(-0.95%) in September, respectively.

The country’s labour force participation rate declined over the month by 0.05% to 58.93% in September. The rate  also declined by 0.19% from that of the previous year.

Yesterday, a new law aimed at expanding the recruitment of foreign talent by relaxing the requirements for them to work in Taiwan came into effect.
