Taiwan – Jobless rate rises slightly in October to 3.80%

Taiwan’s unemployment rate rose by 0.03% in October 2020 to 3.80% when compared to the same period last year, according to the latest manpower survey results from Directorate General Budget, Accounting and Statistics.

When compared to the previous month, the unemployment rate declined by 0.03%. The seasonally adjusted unemployment rate also declined month-on-month by 0.01% to 3.77% in October.

The number of unemployed persons was 455,000 in October, which decreased by 3,000 (-0.66%) from the previous month but increased by 4,000 (0.86%) from the previous year.

Total employment increased by 6,000 (0.05%) in October to 11.51 million, however, it decreased by 7,000 (-0.06%) when compared with that of the previous year.

Compared with that of the previous year, employment in agriculture and the goods-producing sector decreased by 7,000 (-1.31%) and 27,000 (-0.67%) in October, respectively; the services-providing sector increased by 28,000(0.40%).

When compared to September 2020, employment in agriculture, the goods-producing sector and the

services-providing sector increased by 1,000 (0.21%), 2,000 (0.03%) and 4,000 (0.05%) in October, respectively.

Meanwhile, Taiwan’s labour force participation rate was 59.13% in October, a decline of 0.03% from the previous year, and down by 0.11% from the previous month.
