Taiwan – Jobless rate climbs slightly in August to 4.24%

The unemployment rate in Taiwan rose by 0.25% in August 2021 when compared to the same period a year ago to 4.24%, according to the latest manpower survey results from Directorate General Budget, Accounting and Statistics.

When compared to the previous month, the unemployment rate declined by 0.29% in August. At the same time, the seasonally adjusted unemployment rate also declined over the month by 0.28% to 4.08%.

Total employment increased by 35,000 (0.31%) in August to 11.39 million; however, it decreased by 108,000(-0.94%) when compared with that of the previous year.

When compared to the previous year, employment in agriculture, the good-producing sector and the services-providing sector decreased by 7,000 (-1.29%), 21,000 (-0.50%) and 81,000 (-1.17%) in August, respectively.

The country’s labour force participation rate rose by 0.03% to 58.98% in August; however, it declined by 0.25% from that of the previous year.
