“Spot workers’” ranks are surging in Japan with about 10.7 million on-demand workers signed up to use smart phone apps to find gigs — a number that has doubled since 2020, Nikkei Asia reported. Growth quickened in recent months with an increase of about 3 million since September. The number of client companies using spot workers is also up by roughly 40% at talent platform Timee.
